A Cleveland-area woman who lost embryos when a freezer at a University Hospitals fertility clinic malfunctioned last year has lost a court battle.
A state appeals court has ruled embryos are not people, but property under the law. Wendy Penniman took the case to the appeals court last month after a Cuyahoga County judge issued the same ruling. Penniman is one of dozens of people suing over the loss of frozen eggs and embryos.
