Ohio's Tick Season Is Active

cdc.gov

The Ohio Department of Health says the current tick season is particularly active.

One major concern is the growing population of the black-legged tick, which arrived in Ohio in 2008. It carries the viruses that cause Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. The number of Lyme Disease cases in Ohio has risen from 154 in 2015 to 293 last year. There were 12 cases of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever in 2015, while there were 37 last year. The state lacks a tick eradication program. May is national Lyme Disease awareness month.
