FBI Investigating Possible Motive In Dayton Shootings

The FBI has opened an investigation into the Dayton shootings last Sunday, citing the gunman's interest in violent ideology.

Investigators will try to determine what ideologies influenced 24-year-old Connor Betts. Investigators are looking into who might have helped him, and why he chose the Oregon entertainment district.  Meanwhile, President Trump's plan to carry a message of national unity and healing to Dayton and El Paso, Texas today is drawing skepticism from some local residents as well as Democratic presidential candidates. A White House spokesperson says Trump also wants to have a conversation about ways to head off mass shootings in the future. Critics point to Trump's divisive language and his anti-immigrant rhetoric that sounds much like that of the El Paso gunman.  Democratic Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley questions whether Trump's visit will help heal the community, given his divisive rhetoric.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
