Age-Friendly Mobility Projects Unveiled

Columbus leaders and community groups have announced nine projects to benefit the transportation and mobility needs of older adults.

The list of projects includes a Hilltop circulator that will offer free rides to older adults to a number of locations, including the area’s YMCA and library, Westgate Recreation Center, and a nearby pharmacy. Older neighborhood residents selected the stops, and the service will be operated by Clintonville Community Resources Center. Residents looking for more information or to sign up can contact Barbara Camfield at 614-276-8224 x 5028 or email

Another pilot project would provide transportation assistance in a partnership between Lyft, the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, and the Greater Columbus Network of Villages.

The Central Ohio Transit Authority will expand work with its Older Adult Mobility Committee to increase options for older adults and individuals with disabilities by identifying and decreasing barriers to riding fixed routes. A pilot on-demand service will respond to increased non-ADA paratransit needs.

All projects will be evaluated by Age-Friendly and Ohio State University’s College of Social Work. The 65 and over population is expected to double by the year 2050. A description of all the projects can be found here.
