Ginther Returns Corporate Funding For State Of The City Speech

Democratic Columbus Mayor Andy Ginther has returned 66 thousand dollars in corporate donations used to fund the annual "State of the City" speech.

A spokesperson says media coverage and questions made the mayor reflect on the situation. Some of the sponsors have multi-million dollar city contracts or have lobbied for tax breaks or public funding. Corporate funding of the speech began under former Mayor Michael Coleman, a Democrat who is now a corporate lobbyist.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
