Columbus health officals say there are more than 1,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19  in Columbus and Worthington, including 14 deaths.

Columbus Health Commissioner Mysheika Roberts says the virus is especially affecting the region's African-American community:

Roberts says while her department continues to battle COVID-19 on the front lines, it will also reinforce its work to address racism as a public health issue. It's launching a new endeavor to increase life expectancy and raise the quality of life by reducing health inequities. The Center for Public Health Innovation will examine the factors that lead to the city's minority population living shorter and less fulfilling lives. Roberts say the new center will develop recommendations for the mayor to address racism and health disparities.
