GCAC, CAPA Team Up On Community Healing Project

newsbreak.com

CAPA and the Greater Columbus Arts Council are launching an effort to help heal the community.

The Art-Unites-Cbus initiative will employ Columbus-based visual artists to paint murals on the plywood installed over the broken windows at the Ohio Theatre and Arts Council office. The installations are already underway and are expected to be completed by the end of the week. CAPA officials say while the murals won't solve issues of inequality and injustice that plague society, they will provide an opportunity to spark hope and light while the city and nation work toward much-needed change. The Arts Council hopes other businesses with boarded storefronts consider hiring artists to paint messages of healing and unity.

A native of Chicago, naturalized citizen of Cincinnati and resident of Columbus, Alison attended Earlham College and the Ohio State University. She has equal passion for Midwest history, hockey and Slavic poetry.
