Hundreds Protest Casey Goodson Junior Shooting

Jim Letizia

Hundreds of protesters rallied in downtown Columbus Friday night demanding justice for a black man who was killed by a sheriff's deputy outside his home.  The crowd marched toward the statehouse chanting, "no justice, no peace, no racist police." There have been no reports of arrests at the protest, which appears to have been peaceful.  Last week, 23-year-old Casey Christopher Goodson was shot to death outside his home by a sheriff's deputy searching for a fugitive in the neighborhood.  Attorneys for the deputy say Goodson pointed a gun at him before the shooting.  Goodson's mother says her son was a peaceful man who had a permit to carry a concealed weapon.  Another protest is planned for Saturday at noon in downtown Columbus.
