Toledo Blade Writers Say Owner And Trump Supporter Censoring Them

wtol.com

Staff at the Toledo Blade are at odds with ownership, saying owners are altering pieces written by journalists to soften stories critical of President Trump.

Reporters say they were directed not to refer to those committing violence and breaking into the U.S. Capitol building Wednesday as Trump supporters.

Last night writers launched a byline strike, removing their names from articles.  Susan Allan Block, the wife of company owner John Block, put an all-caps post on social media saying “No Peace! No Unity!” and using an insulting term to refer to Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris.

Governor Mike DeWine re-appointed Block to the Ohio Arts Council in 2019.  At least one state lawmaker has called for her removal. The Governor's office has yet to comment.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
