Blue Jackets Will Retire Former Captain Rick Nash's #61 In March

The Columbus Blue Jackets announced today that they will retire the jersey number of all time leading scorer and one time team captain Rick Nash later this season. Skating as #61, Nash scored 289 goals and tallied 258 assists for 547 points in his time with the team. He was the Jackets number one pick in the 2002 draft, and in 2003 he became the youngest player in NHL history to lead the league in scoring.

Nash was team captain 2008- 2012, when he was traded to the New York Rangers, where he spent six seasons. After spending the 2017 playing for the Boston Bruins, Nash retired, and returned to his home In Columbus. He joined the Jackets again, this time in player development.

Nash is the first Blue Jacket to be honored by having his number retired. A ceremony is scheduled for March 2022.
