City Attorney To Seek Recognizance Bonds For Some Non-Violent Crimes

Columbus City attorney Zach Klein says his prosecutors will stop seeking cash bonds for people charged with nonviolent misdemeanors.

Klein says the policy that will seek recognizance bonds for such alleged offenders is designed to combat jail overcrowding.  Klein says those who are not a flight risk should not be put in jail because they can't afford to pay the cost of bail.  Klein said his office will still ask for cash bonds on those accused of violent crimes, sex offenses, and drunk-driving.
