Columbus Curfew Rescinded, Lawsuit To Be Dismissed

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther has rescinded the curfew put in place May 30th, hours after a lawsuit sought a restraining order.

The announcement was made in a press released issued by the Mayor's office on Saturday. Ginther says:

I am pleased that in recent days there has been better communication and greater collaboration between police and protestors, demonstrations have been peaceful, and there have not been any significant acts of violence, vandalism or use of force by police…..I applaud all those who are raising their voices in protest and encourage all to continue to do so peacefully.”

The curfew, which covered all of Columbus from 10 pm to 6 am, will be lifted immediately. Two Columbus attorneys had filed a federal lawsuit Friday night, saying the conditions that prompted the curfew - “widespread acts of vandalism” were no longer a threat, and so continuing the curfew violated the U.S. Constitution. The lawyers involved will move to have the lawsuit dismissed.

A native of Chicago, naturalized citizen of Cincinnati and resident of Columbus, Alison attended Earlham College and the Ohio State University. She has equal passion for Midwest history, hockey and Slavic poetry.
