Dayton Students Told To Take Down Controversial Works Of Art

wdtn.com

Some students in Dayton recently got a hard lesson on American politics and censorship. Dayton Regional STEM school students were asked by the city to take down their artwork due to the political nature of the subject matter. The ninth-graders were studying the experiences of African Americans throughout U.S. history, including recent events regarding police relations in Baltimore and Ferguson, Missouri. They were asked to create art portraying police-community relations. The artwork was displayed at the Dayton convention center in February, but was removed days later after the city says it received several complaints. The students painted silhouettes comparing modern day injustices with historic events.
