Five CCS Schools Closed Wednesday By Staff Shortages, Heating Issues; Union Calls For 2-Weeks Remote Learning

Four Columbus City Schools will be operating remotely on Wednesday, and cold weather is closing a fifth completely.

West Broad Elementary and Buckeye, Wedgewood, and Yorktown will go remote because of staff shortages. All athletic practices and games for those schools are cancelled as well, although teachers and staff are asked to report to work on-site.

For the second day, heating issues at Parsons Elementary are cancelling both in-person and remote classes.

The union that represents Columbus City Schools teachers is calling on the district to go to remote learning for two weeks to give staff, students and families a chance to adjust to the latest wave of COVID. CEA president John Coniglio says staff absences and students in quarantine show it's time for the district to step back, deep clean buildings, address HVAC issues, and return to school in a more orderly fashion in a fortnight.

On Monday, Cincinnati Public Schools announced all students will transition to remote learning for two weeks starting Wednesday. And Hamilton City Schools are going remote for the rest of the week, because of staff shortages brought on by COVID-19.
