Columbus woman indicted in suffocation of 5-year old son

Pammy Maye, the 48-year old Columbus woman accused of suffocating her five-year old ward and dumping his body in storm drain, has been indicted on charges of aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

Authorities say Maye's husband called 9-1-1 in the early morning hours of February 14th. With Maye attempting to interfere with the call in the background, he told the dispatcher that she had woken him up, told him that she had killed the boy, but "had a plan". She then fled their Reeb Avenue home in her Jeep, and a statewide Amber Alert was issued.

Maye was arrested near Cleveland late February 15th, and reportedly told police she had suffocated Darnell Taylor, and disposed of his body in a storm drain on the 1000 block of Marsdale, where it was later recovered.

Court documents indicate the Mayes, who were acquaintances of Darnell's biological family, had become foster parents in May, 2023, and had then become legal guardians. Maye will return to court this Friday
