Folk Roots Singer-Songwriter Shawna Caspi has spent nearly 2 decades and 5 albums captivating audiences with her poetic lyricism and her commitment to always trying to “find some light in any dark subject…that vein of hope that runs through everything”. Shawna’s most recent album Hurricane Coming finds her at her most honest and vulnerable, and was nominated for Canadian Folk Music Award’s Contemporary Album of the Year (2023).On Saturday, September 30th, Shawna will be the featured act of the first 2023-2024 coffeehouse concert sponsored by the Columbus Folk Music Society here in Columbus.
Prior to Shawna Caspi taking the stage at 8pm on Saturday, September 30th at the Columbus Mennonite Church, 35 Oakland Park Avenue, there is a full two-hours of additional folk music programming to enjoy!
Starting at 6 pm, there will be an informal folk music jam, followed by an open mic segment for 3 different folk acts at 7pm. Finally, at 7:45 pm, the audience will be invited to join in a brief folk music sing-along as a reminder of what is at the heart of folk music - music for the people made by the people.
