Rock Hall Museum Reopens This Weekend

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland reopens this weekend, offering free admission to healthcare workers and their families on Sunday. Admission to the museum will also be free on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and celebrate music's role in the Civil Rights Movement.

"We have a long tradition of having the museum open and free on Martin Luther King Jr. Day,” Rock Hall president and CEO Greg Harris said. “We have a featured exhibit ‘It’s Been Said All Along: Voices of Rage, Hope & Empowerment. It talks about how music has been the voice of change, how African American artists for the last five decades have been calling for change. This exhibit tells that story, and we felt it was important to be open. For those that aren’t comfortable visiting, we have a lot of programming online at rockhall.com.”

There, educators will be talking about the exhibit along with various performances and activities. The nominating process has started for the next class of inductees as well. With the pandemic pushing back last year's induction ceremony, the timeline has changed for this year with nominees announced next month, the induction class unveiled in the spring, and the ceremony in Cleveland this fall.

"What's fun about that is it allows us to celebrate the inductees all summer long and do things at the museum leading up to the induction ceremony in the fall," Harris said. "We think that cadence works well. It gives us a chance to deliver a wonderful event for Ohio. Doing it in the fall this year gives us enough time to get out of this pandemic and get on with our lives."

For the reopening this weekend, guests must reserve the free tickets in advance. The museum will stagger entry times and limit capacity to comply with COVID-19 safeguards.
