SUPCO To Hear Appeal Of Central Ohioan Freed From Prison In 1990

State of Ohio

The Ohio Supreme Court has accepted the appeal of a former death row inmate from the Columbus area who says he did not commit the two murders for which he was convicted. 80-year-old Dale Johnston was sentenced for the 1982 shooting deaths of his stepdaughter and her fiancee. He won an appeal and was freed in 1990. Another man confessed in 2008. Two years ago, a Franklin County judge declared Johnston not guilty, allowing him to seek compensation from the state. An appeals court overturned the ruling. The state is fighting Johnston's efforts to be compensated.
