The replica of the Santa Maria that was removed from the Scioto River in downtown Columbus remains dismantled in storage as a group hoping to reinstate the vessel tries to come up with a fundraising plan. The vessel was removed earlier this year because of the riverfront renovation project. Its potential return depends on the nonprofit group Columbus Santa Maria raising 1 million dollars for repairs. The group's director says there are new negotiations, but the future remains uncertain. The city is not expected to consider using tax money to help reinstate the vessel unless the group raises enough private money.
