A former Toledo area coin dealer and Republican Party fundraiser convicted in a state investment scandal is giving up his attempt for a new trial. An attorney for Tom Noe has withdrawn his appeal. Noe was convicted seven years ago of stealing from a 50 million dollar rare-coin fund he managed for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. He's now serving an 18-year prison term. A federal judge last fall ruled against Noe's bid for a new trial, saying he failed to prove his arguments that he was denied a fair hearing because of pre-trial publicity.
