The state budget office has released preliminary district-level spending figures out of Ohio Governor John Kasich's proposed changes to the school funding formula. Kasich's budget plan calls for a 700 million dollar increase in foundation funding to schools. State Budget Director Tim Keen says more than half of public school districts get less money from the state under the plan, largely because of funding formula changes intended to better reflect a district's capacity to raise revenue.
The changes result in poorer districts seeing increases and wealthier districts getting cuts. Keen says 332 districts will get funding increases and 278 will get cuts. State aid figures exclude certain tax revenue reductions.
