Shoppers Get Ohio Sales Tax Holiday In August

Back-to-school shoppers will get a tax break next month in the state's first ever sales tax holiday. The holiday, which will include online purchases, will run August 7th through August 9th.  Sales tax will not be collected on clothing priced at $75 or less per item, school supplies priced at $20 or less per item, and school instructional material priced at $20 or less per item.  The tax exemption is based on the cost of individual items rather than total purchase to prevent shoppers from claiming exemption on luxury items.  Unlike tax holidays in other states, purchases of laptops and computers are not included in the sales tax holiday.  More information on what is included is available on the Ohio Department of Taxation website at: http://www.tax.ohio.gov/sales_and_use/salestaxholiday/holidayfaq.aspx
