News Organizations Sue For Video Of UC Police-Involved Shooting

crimefeed.com

The Associated Press and other media have sued the Hamilton County prosecutor to force release of video from a University of Cincinnati police officer's fatal shooting of a motorist in a traffic stop.  The lawsuit filed Friday in the Ohio Supreme Court follows numerous requests to Prosecutor Joe Deters under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act. Other media suing are The Cincinnati Enquirer and Cincinnati television stations WCPO, WLWT, WXIX and WKRC.  The FOIA requests and the lawsuit seek public release of all video related to the July 19 shooting of 43-year-old Samuel Dubose. Deters' spokesperson said they haven't seen the lawsuit and had no comment. Deters has refused to release body-camera footage until his investigation is completed. On Thursday, the Dubose family staged a protest outside of Deters' office, demanding the release of the video. University police report Officer Ray Tensing says he was dragged by Dubose's car. The family has disputed the official account of the incident.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
