Kasich Denies Clemency For Coingate Investor

Gov. John Kasich denied clemency for the key figure in the so-called Coingate scandal in 2005. 

Statehouse correspondent Andy Chow reports.

The governor sent a letter to Tom Noe letting him know that his request for clemency was denied. 

Noe was tagged in a scandal after the Bureau of Workers Compensation gave him $50 million to invest in rare coins and collectibles, such as Beanie Babies. The scheme led to the conviction of several high-ranking state officials, including former Republican Gov. Bob Taft. 

Kasich noted that he was going off the advice of the Ohio Parole Board which recommended denying clemency by unanimous vote. 

Noe is currently seven years into an 18-year sentence.
