thecount.com

A Columbus man will serve 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of driving the getaway car during a fatal robbery attempt in 2014. 20-year-old Bryan Mathews pleaded guilty to multiple charges in the death of 49-year-old handyman William Keen at the victim's Prairie Township home. Prosecutors say 17-year-old Jafet Medrano killed Keen. Medrano was sentenced earlier to life in prison. In another case, a Columbus woman also accused of being the driver of a getaway car has pleaded guilty. Mia Shamis of Violet Township has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and is agreeing to testify against the suspect in a drug-related double-murder.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
