Huntingon/FirstMerit Merger Completed

Columbus-based Huntington Bancshares says this morning its 3.4 billion dollar purchase of Akron-based FirstMerit bank has been completed. The purchase was first announced in January, and a spokesperson says the bank has been ahead of schedule with approvals. Huntington plans to close 107 branches, including ten in central Ohio next year.
