State Will Probe Henry Green Killing; Tyre King Killing Ruled A Homicide

WCBE Files

Franklin County prosecutor Ron O'Brien says there will be an independent element of the investigation being conducted into the shooting death of a African-American man by a white Columbus police officer earlier this year. O'Brien says the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation will use 3D imaging technology to recreate the scene of 23-year-old Henry Green's shooting. Undercover detectives have said Green shot at them, but witnesses say otherwise. An activist group called for the independent probe. In a statement, the People's Justice Project says it's an important step towards justice and is proof that organizing works. The group says it will work with O'Brien. A grand jury will decide if the officers involved face criminal charges. The announcement was made shortly after the county coroner ruled the death of 13-year-old Tyre King, another African-American who died at the hands of white police officers earlier this year, is a homicide. King was shot three times on his left side.  The PJP has also called for an independent investigation of the King shooting.
