Columbus police are investigating what the police chief calls an employee's accidental deletion of 100 thousand dashboard camera video files. Chief Kim Jacobs says a worker in the Technical Services Bureau deleted the files in May of last year, and officials learned about it last week. Jacobs says it happened when the worker attempted to update the classifications under which the videos are filed.
Jacobs says most of the files were from 2015. Many involved misdemeanor traffic stops and were captured on backseat video cameras. She says police are investigating whether the files can be retrieved and if they've already been transferred to detectives or prosecutors.
