The Smart Columbus initiative on Wednesday announced an incentive for developers and property owners to install electric vehicle charging stations. Mike Foley reports.
The Smart Columbus Multi-Unit Dwelling rebate program will award $170,000 to apartment and condominium developers and owners in Franklin, Delaware, Union, Madison, Pickaway, Fairfield and Licking Counties. Rebates are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis for a value of up to $3,500 per plug or parking space. The program has a cap of $25,000 per applicant. The goal is to increase access to electric vehicle charging stations for apartment and condo residents. Rebate applications are available on the City of Columbus website. Last year, Columbus won the U.S. Department of Transportation’s $40 million Smart City Challenge. The city also received $10 million from Paul Allen’s company Vulcan to accelerate the transition to an electrified, low-emissions transportation system.
