The United Nations is asking the federal government to investigate a 2009 incident at the Franklin County jail in which a 20-year-old pregnant woman miscarried after a deputy stunned her with a taser. The U.N quotes a Reuters report of last week on jail indicents in Ohio, Arkansas, Tennessee and Oklahoma in saying the Martini Smith case appears to be torture. Smith sued the county and won an out-of-court settlement a few years ago. The county sheriff's office declined comment on the U.N.'s call, but says taser indicents at the jail have declined dramatically since the settlement was reached.
