Ohio Senate Committee Chair Doesn't Anticipate Vote On Nuclear Plant Bailout Bill

State of Ohio

A Republican state lawmaker says there are no plans to hold more hearings on a proposal to raise customer bills to bailout two nuclear power plants owned by Akron-based FirstEnergy.

The legislation would give the company an extra 180 million dollars a year to keep the Davis-Besse and Perry plants operating.  Senator Bill Beagle says he does not anticipate a vote by the Public Utilities Committee he chairs. The company has been saying the plants can't compete with cheaper natural gas facilities.
