MORPC Accepting Public Comment On Transportation Plan

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission is seeking public input on a long-range transportation plan.

Mike Foley reports.
MORPC officials are developing a 2020-2050 transportation plan that includes Delaware and Franklin counties, Bloom and Violet townships in Fairfield County, New Albany, Pataskala and Etna Township in Licking County and Jerome Township in Union County. It will include highway, pedestrian, bikeway, and public transportation improvements. The plan will be grounded by several goals. One is to reduce per capita energy consumption and promote alternative fuel resources to increase affordability and resilience of regional energy supplies. Objectives here include reducing the percentage of commuters driving alone and increasing the percentage of transit riders, bicyclists, and walkers. Another goal involves positioning central Ohio to attract and retain economic opportunity. An objective here: increase the average number of jobs reachable within 20 minutes by vehicle and 40 minutes by transit.

Another goal involves increasing regional collaboration and employing innovative transportation solutions to maximize the return on public expenditures. This includes expansion of Intelligent Transportation System technologies and Smart Street elements. The full draft can be found at morpc.org. There’s also a direct link in the online version of this story at wcbe.org. Residents have until 5pm October 31 to submit their suggestions at the following link: www.morpc.org/MTP2050
