As expected by many observers, scandal-scarred Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer will retire after the Rose Bowl game next month.
The school says assistant Ryan Day will be the next head coach. A formal announcement is expected to be made at a press conference this afternoon. The university didn't say why he was retiring, but Meyer has said he has debilitating headaches caused by an arachnoid cyst in his brain. He was also suspended for three games this season for his handling of the case of now-fired assistant coach Zach Smith. Meyer spent seven years at OSU and won a national championship. Meyer has ducked recent questions from reporters about his future.
