The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved a construction permit for a wind turbine project on Lake Erie.
The Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation is behind the 126 million dollar Icebreaker Wind project. It plans to build six turbines eight miles off the shore of downtown Cleveland. The project would generate enough power to serve seven-thousand homes. Spokesperson Dave Karpinski says officials are awaiting approval from the Ohio Power Siting Board.
If approved, construction could begin in 2021.
