Marion Man Resentenced For Decades-Old Slaying

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction

The Marion man whose 1994 death sentence for the rape and slaying of a woman was overturned by an appeals court has been resentenced to 26 years to life in prison.

The court said 55-year-old Maurice Mason had ineffective counsel during the penalty phase of his trial in the slaying of 19-year-old Robin Dennis.  Mason launched an unsuccessful legal challenge of Ohio's death penalty law.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
