Ohio Governor Mike DeWine says the state is having difficulty finding a new set of lethal execution drugs following concerns raised by a judge over the constitutionality of Ohio's current protocol.
DeWine says a significant obstacle is the possibility of drugmakers cutting the state off from drugs used for medicinal purposes if they learn one is to be used for an execution. DeWine says thousands of Ohioans could be affected if state agencies that buy drugs, including the departments of Health, Developmental Disabilities and others, lost their supplies. Multiple manufacturers and distributors in recent years have prohibited use of their products for executions. DeWine Wednesday announced a delay in the September 12th exeuction of death row inmate Warren Keith Henness for the 1992 murder of a Circleville man. The execution has been postponed until May 14th, 2020.
