The Ohio Department of Health has ordered the polls closed today, delaying the state's presidential primary until June 2nd.
Governor Mike DeWine announced the decision late Monday after a Franklin County judge ruled against his request that in-person voting be delayed. The health director has ordered the polls closed as a health emergency. DeWine said people shouldn't have to choose between their health and their constitutional rights. The effort came amid a mandatory three-week closure of schools, and the indefinite closure of bars and restaurants. The current number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ohio has reached 50. Fourteen of the patients are hospitalized. Cases have been confirmed in 12 counties, but nearly half are in Cuyahoga County.
