Smart Columbus has ended its investigation of a self-driving shuttle in Linden that suddenly braked and caused a passenger to fall to the floor last February.
The investigative report says the incident was triggered by a slight deviation in the steering. Objects in the vehicle’s path, weight distribution or road conditions were said to be possible contributing factors. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration suspended 16 self-driving shuttles operated by the same company. The agency has recommended providing seatbelts and more passenger safety information on autonomous shuttles.
