Former Local Hospital Researcher Pleads Guilty To Giving Secrets To China

U.S. Attorney's Office

A former researcher at Children's Hospital in Columbus has pleaded guilty to stealing trade secrets for China.

46-year-old Li Chen admitted that she and her husband, 49-year-old former hospital worker Yu Zhou, stole cellular research they conducted and illegally transfered the information to China. Prosecutors say the couple set up businesses in China, applied for patents there and traveled to China, all without hospital authorization. Under a plea deal, Chen will forfeit nearly 1.5 million dollars, and more than 1 million worth of stock and options.
