Columbus Police Snub CCS Game Night Security Requests
The Columbus City Schools are having trouble finding enough security guards to work high school football games.
District safety director Chris Ward says they had about half the special duty police officers they requested. The district did not renew its contract with Columbus police this summer, meaning resource officers are no longer in schools.
The district has asked Columbus police to have two to three officers work special duty or a volunteer overtime shift at games, but few signed up. So the district contacted the the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, but it declined a request for deputies at games.
The local police union president says officers feel their work isn't appreciated.
