Coroner: Local Youth Suicide Rate Increasing

webmd.com

The Franklin County Coronor's office says young people accounted for a larger percentage of suicides in the first six months of 2020.

The percentage among people under the age of 19 rose from 4 to 9 percent from the same period in 2019. Cases among people age 20-24 increased from 12 to 17percent.  There was a decrease in the number of people who used a firearm, and a corresponding increase in the number of hangings.  Overall there was a 4 percent increase; going from 72 in the first six months of 2019, and 75 in the first half of 2020. The coronor's office says it issued the figures after several  inquiries from the public.
