Dayton's Whaley Won't Seek Re-Election

wikipedia

Democratic Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley says she won’t seek a third term, raising expectations she will seek higher office.

Whaley made her announcement Wednesday, two days after criticizing Republican Governor Mike DeWine for signing the so-called “stand your ground” gun bill into law. Whaley and DeWine had pledged to work for gun reforms in the aftermath of the 2019 Dayton shooting that killed nine people. But DeWine couldn't get enough support in the Republican-controlled state Legislature. Whaley said DeWine caved to GOP extremists.
