Gov. Mike DeWine is launching another effort to boost COVID vaccinations, this time specifically targeting young Ohioans. His new program will give people under 25 an opportunity to win college scholarships for getting COVID shots.

DeWine says 46% of Ohioans under 25 are unvaccinated. He says a new lottery will offer five $100,000 scholarships to any college or trade program to any vaccinated Ohioan in that age range, no matter when they got their shots. In addition, 50 $10,000 scholarships will be offered to vaccinated Ohioans under 25. While there are questions about whether the Vax A Million cash and scholarship lottery earlier this year raised vaccination rates, DeWine says he thinks it did and this will too.

“Yea, it’s really worth it. This money is money well spent.”

DeWine says details are coming soon. He says he decided to go with only scholarships this time because the public liked that idea and it targets the age group most at risk of getting COVID now.
