Cleveland Suspends Cop Who Ordered Detention Of Tamir Rice's Sister

USA Today

A Cleveland police supervisor has been suspended two days for detaining the sister of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, the Black youth who was shot and killed by a white police officer.

Sergeant Janell Rutherford was one of four supervisors on duty when Rice was killed. She ordered Rice’s 14-year-old sister be held the back of a police cruiser for over an hour after the shooting. An officer threw her to the ground and handcuffed her.  Cleveland's police chief rejected a civilian review board's recommended suspension earlier this year. The police union's president vows an appeal.
