DeWine Says He Opposes Statue Removals

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine says he's not in favor of the removal of statues of Christopher Columbus, but he's open to discussions about people's place in history.

DeWine says pulling every statue of Columbus or Civil War figures down because someone wasn't perfect probably isn't a good idea. Columbus State Community College has removed its statue of Columbus and Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther wants a City Hall statue to go. The Columbus Art Commission has scheduled a virtual meeting today to discuss the fate of the statue.  Commission Chair Diane Nance says it will take time to decide on a replacement and to raise funds for its construction.
