Group Says Small Farmers Can Bolster Economy and Supplement Food Supplies

A coalition of farm groups are pressing Ohio officials to help ensure growers can survive the COVID-19 crisis. 

They suggest establishing social-distancing rules for farmer's markets and allowing growers to sell unused produce to the emergency food system. Amalie Lipstreu is with the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association:
 
Ohio has 320 farmers' markets and more than 75-thousand farms. The U.S. Department of Agriculture this Friday is expected to announce directives about distributing 9.5 billion dollars in emergency funding for farmers through the CARES Act.
