Time is running out for the Ohio House and Senate to decide what to do with the nuclear power plant bailout law. Today could be the last day of the legislative session, and with many members absent, the year could end without any changes being made. Ohio Public Radio's Andy Chow reports.
The future of the nuclear bailout law created through HB6 falls into different paths. Some lawmakers want a complete repeal. Others want to repeal just the power plant subsidies. A proposal to delay the charges on all Ohioans' electric bills is on the table along with a plan to let the plants' owner decide if it even wants the subsidies.
And if nothing is done by the end of the year, then HB6 remains as is.
HB6 allows for hundreds of millions of dollars in coal plant subsidies, creates $20 million a year in solar subsidies, and cuts green energy standards.
But investigators say the bill was passed through a racketeering scheme.
A county judge blocked the new charges funding those subsidies from going on electric bills next month until a court case plays out.
