OSU Denies Zach Smith Used Racial Slur Against Now Former Football Player

Ohio State University

Ohio State University is denying allegations a former football player transferred to another school after former assistant coach Zach Smith used the 'n' word toward him.

The online sports site Stadium reports the father of Travon Grimes says his son transferred last year after Smith used the slur during a practice. Reporter Brett McMurphy says  OSU Coach Urban Meyer, Smith and other school officials then  booked a private plane to Florida to visit Grimes.

Meyer told reporters Tuesday the allegations are false and they made the trip  to support a family in distress.

Grimes mother says the father is no longer in their lives and his claim should not be taken seriously. Meyer says OSU is considering taking legal action.
