In a time when people are sharing more of their personal struggles, we talk to Congresswoman Joyce Beatty and Doug McCollough about their struggles -- and more importantly how they navigated those struggles so they could make their greatest impact on the world. Congresswoman Beatty not only overcame, she changed the view of what it is to be a successful black woman. She talks about how helping women succeed helps America succeed.
Doug McCollough shares how his focus on inclusion is expanding the field of employees working in technology in central Ohio. Through his board work as well as his work as CIO, he is creating a pipeline that allows unemployed people to get trained and find technology jobs. He is helping build the system that will close this gap long term.
Since 2013, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty has represented Ohio’s Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. She serves on the House Financial Services Committee, and is an influential member of the Democratic Women’s Working Group. In addition, Congresswoman Beatty is a regional whip, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, Democratic Seniors Task Force, Co-Chair of the Financial and Economic Literacy Caucus and Congressional Heart and Stroke Coalition, Deputy Vice-Chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus, and founder and co-chair of the Congressional Civility and Respect Caucus. Outside of her committee and numerous caucus memberships, Beatty is a committed and vocal supporter of early education, women’s equality, and the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI), which seeks to increase the participation of women and minorities in all facets of the financial marketplace, among many other priorities.
Doug McCollough is CIO of the City of Dublin, Ohio. He is a leader working on initiatives ranging from Connected and Autonomous Vehicles to expanding broadband networks to Smart Cities and Blockchain. Doug is passionate about the technology workforce and the changing nature of the technical talent pool. Doug has taken an active interest in the Central Ohio Technology Community as well as developing expertise in Smart Cities, Intelligent Communities, Digital Government, Broadband and Technology Workforce. He is on the Advisory Board of Per Scholas in Columbus, Ohio, and the National Advisory Board of Tech Corps, both organizations that work to expose people to opportunities in the technology workforce.
