A Columbus man has been charged with raping a 10-year old Ohio girl, whose efforts to get an abortion drew national attention against the backdrop of new, tougher abortion restrictions.
Police say 27-year old Gershon Fuentes was arrested Tuesday and has confessed to raping the girl twice. Fuentes was arraigned this/Wednesday morning and is in the Franklin County Jail pending a $2 million bond.
Some conservatives such as Ohio’s Republican governor and attorney general were skeptical about the case. Attorney General Dave Yost noted that there had been "not a whisper" of the allegation in Ohio's law enforcement community. Abortion rights supporters say the story illustrated the fallout of the Supreme Court's ruling last month that overturned Roe v. Wade.
